Moreover, pedestrian deaths have decreased as well. The number dropped from 9.5 to 0.3, demonstrating that safer crossings, cleverer road designs, rigorous law enforcement and focused attention are yielding positive results.
The total rate of fatalities and serious injuries also shows notable improvement. This figure has dropped from 36.2 to 4 and the rate of deaths for every ten thousand registered vehicles fell from 4.2 to 0.45.
