Social media has become one of the most used platforms to look for jobs and post them. Like other areas in the world, social media comes with its fair share of good and bad. One of the greatest issues present today are social media/job posting scams. Numerous people fall into these scams as it is very easy to do so.
Recruiting scams have become an alarming issue for the UAE social media due to the current of fake businesses claiming to hire people. Major Saeed Al-Shabli, Deputy Director of the Ministry’s Digital Security Department, talked about these growing issues during his interview with Police Society. Reporters began quoting Al Khaleej when he said, “With the rise of social media as a hub for job advertising, fraudulent companies have found a fertile ground for exploitation.”
Al-Shabli, in his statement, received claims of these scams preying on people’s hopes through enticing advertisements. It starts off with surging pay along with instant freelancing contracts. They often ask candidates for deposit for fake job placements accompanied with personal sensitive details.
Indeed, scams are extremely common nowadays, especially during hiring Season. The Ministry of Defense is yet to identify the root, as these scams are only worsening. The Ministry insists people should constantly verify a business before even quoting them.
Although social media has many new and emerging prospects, scammers are also using social media to target unsuspecting job seekers. To safeguard yourself, make sure to verify the credentials of all companies offering employment, and if something does not sit right with you, it is always best to act on those instincts and report it to the proper authorities.
