Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk announced Wednesday that he is stepping down from his role in the U.S. government, marking the end of a chapter aimed at curbing federal spending.
In a post shared on his platform X, Musk stated:
“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President Donald Trump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending.”
The announcement follows Musk’s first major public break with President Trump over his signature spending bill—signaling possible tensions in policy direction.
But Musk’s focus is far from fading. He added:
“The DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”
While the exact scope of the “DOGE mission” remains unclear, Musk’s reference suggests a continued push for innovation, efficiency, and perhaps even cryptocurrency advocacy within public systems.
As always, when Elon Musk speaks—or steps down—the world watches.
