On Sunday morning, a 52-storey residential skyscraper in Sharjah, which houses over 1,500 residents of various nationalities, was engulfed in flames. The fire that started from one of the apartments at the penthouse level encapsulated the residents as they tried to escape the building.
At 11:31 Sharjah Police received an emergency call which activated the response protocol for the fire. The region was promptly cleared for the Civil Defence and National Ambulance response teams to access the area unimpeded.
Currently, it seems there are no fatalities, but officials are working around the clock to dtermine what started the fire. The investigation is still underway, while local authorities have instructed communities to remain alert and monitor any potential developments.
